Spring Refresh Reset

Day One – Kitchen

Day 1 Blog Post

How to Reset Your Kitchen for Spring Without Feeling Overwhelmed

There’s something about the kitchen that seems to attract everything. Mail lands on the counter. Water bottles multiply overnight. A random measuring spoon appears with no matching set in sight. And somehow the junk drawer starts looking like a tiny museum of broken pens, soy sauce packets, and mystery keys.

If your kitchen feels a little heavy right now, you are not alone.

The good news is that you do not need a full weekend, a label maker, and the patience of a saint to make progress. A simple kitchen reset can go a long way in helping your home feel lighter, cleaner, and easier to manage.

Start with what is expired

One of the quickest ways to make your kitchen feel fresher is to go through pantry items, spices, sauces, and refrigerated odds and ends. Toss anything expired, stale, or no longer being used.

This is one of those tasks that gives instant satisfaction. You open the cabinet, and suddenly it’s not packed with seven half-used mustard jars and that one seasoning blend from 2019 that has clearly retired.

Clear just one drawer

You don’t have to organize the entire kitchen today. Pick one drawer. That’s it.

This could be:

  • The junk drawer
  • The utensil drawer
  • The plastic container zone of chaos
  • The baking drawer

Remove anything that is broken, duplicated, or never used. Keep what serves you now. Let the rest go.

Wipe the surfaces that matter most

Once the clutter is lighter, cleaning feels easier. Focus on the areas you use every day:

  • Counters
  • Cabinet fronts
  • Sink
  • Faucet
  • Stovetop

You do not need to scrub the entire room top to bottom. Just clean the spaces that create the biggest visual and practical impact.

Keep your reset simple

One reason people avoid spring cleaning is that it starts to feel like an all-or-nothing project. But a kitchen reset works best when it is broken into tiny, manageable steps.

Think:

  • One drawer
  • One shelf
  • One counter
  • One quick wipe-down

That is enough to create momentum.

A few favorite tools that make this easier

This is also where I love keeping things simple. A few quality Norwex basics can help make your kitchen reset feel more manageable without needing a pile of harsh products.

For the kitchen, I especially love:

These are some of my go-to tools for everyday messes and quick resets when I want the kitchen to feel clean without turning it into a whole production.

Today’s Mini Challenge

Choose just one of these:

  • Toss expired pantry items
  • Clear one drawer
  • Wipe off one countertop completely

Done is better than perfect.

Final Thought

A reset does not have to be dramatic to be effective. Every spoon you declutter, every bottle you toss, and every counter you clear creates a little more breathing room in your home.

And honestly, that is a beautiful place to start.

And I somehow missed the memo that we were on kitchens on day one. But I cleaned up a pile of seasonal clothes that I’ve left dumped on the floor for a week. Pictures are posted on Wendy’s page.

I only read your post after I had started on the kitchen, so no photos. I thoroughly cleaned the counters, stove top, and sunk. I had my when does professionally clean today so I cleaned off the windowsills and wiped them down thoroughly. I cleaned off two of the small countertop areas and unboxed some snacks and drinks to put them away properly. I had already reorganized my Tupperware drawer yesterday due to a necessity..

Done! I cleaned out a drawer in my kitchen. I didnt even know what all was in it. I threw several things away, washed everything and only kept what I knew I would use. Thank you Wendy! That felt good! I took pictures but im not sure how or where to post them.😊
